蒙陰長毛兔是以本地長毛兔為基礎(chǔ)導(dǎo)入法系和德系血統(tǒng)，培育出來的混血品種。它具有遺傳性能穩(wěn)定，品種，產(chǎn)毛質(zhì)量好等優(yōu)勢。魯南蒙陰長毛兔耐粗飼，適應(yīng)能力強(qiáng)，在很多地區(qū)都能養(yǎng)殖。

在選種方面，養(yǎng)殖戶對于種兔的選擇也有一定的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，公兔要發(fā)育好、抗病強(qiáng)、性欲旺。母兔要體型大，粗毛含量高，產(chǎn)毛量高。3月齡后公母分開飼養(yǎng)，防止早配。非配種期種兔給予中等營養(yǎng)水平，不能使其過肥或過瘦。
